“I can’t wait to see you too baby!”
This was precisely the last text that Akinyi would ever get from her one year two months boyfriend, and after a long pause staring at her phone in the cemetery, she would wish that it was death instead that would’ve taken him. The cruelty and absurdity of all the events that had led up to this moment some two weeks ago came stabbing at her like the edge of a piece of furniture illicitly romancing your small toe. Only this time your toe feels a lot similar to the rest of your whole soul! Akinyi, now all alone with only the wind and her shadow, welled up with tears. The rain started shortly after, and if you believed in God, you’d think that He was crying along with her. Akinyi had to leave and hopefully start anew, maybe find her way back, or maybe adopt this as her new normal! She looked around one more time, I suppose for hope..or something close, but all she could see were dead and wet tombstones with smiling faces that all together seemed to either mock death or simply wave goodbye!
Akinyi and James were madly in love with each other! They met at some tech event back in University, they were both a bit nerdy and so they easily vibed over weird stuff like processors and code and algorithms and even something called Python! In their talking stage, they conversed about almost everything and almost nothing! After their first encounter, they hadn’t really met up again, mainly because they didn’t know what was this that was becoming something. The second time they agreed to meet up, James could swear that at that moment if he was a browser, he’d delete Google because he knew the search was finally over! And maybe he was indeed a browser; who’s to say we all aren’t just a bunch of browsers whose operators are constantly either Searching for purpose, money or big boobs!
The two love birds had planned a series of staycations across different counties. Akinyi, especially, was a sucker for cute reels and TikTok videos and she couldn’t wait for them to make one of their own! They both Loved each other intentionally and they both knew they were loved. Flowers and all sorts of gifts occasionally exchanged hands. Kisses, cuddles, tight hugs and more kisses were things that felt new every time! It’s funny how they liked to grab each other’s asses and play pretend. They are the sort of people you wouldn’t want to be around if love has done to you that thing it usually does to people!
Finally, D-Day was here, everyone was so pumped, Akinyi more than anyone else! However, for everything beautiful that was about to be, James seemed to have something troubling his lovey-dovey mind! This should’ve probably been the first red flag in all this. Later on, when Akinyi will be standing over a bloody floor with a profound sense of lethargy, soaked in his blood, she’ll wonder why he kept it from her. She’ll try to weep but her tear glands would be dry as sand. She’ll wash her hands, and stand in the shower but not to clean up, too much time would have already passed for cleansing, it’ll be for the shower head’s noise to supersede the chaos in hers. After several moments pass, she’ll step out, dry herself and reach out for her phone. She’ll dial a number and a voice from the other side will be heard saying;
“This is 911 what’s your emergency?”
